If anyone asked Buford about his pet boar Rush, he'd say the animal was a good pig. Very rarely would he have to worry about it doing something like run off.

Most of the time.

However, every now and again, the hog would run out -- only for the sake of travelling through the neighborhood. So, with a sigh, Buford got into his black Dodge Charger. He put the key into the ignition and turned.

"Welp, at least Ah don't have t' worry 'bout a wolf or anything," he said to himself before he put the car in reverse.

Meanwhile some blocks away, Rush was busy making its way through the neighborhood. The pig trotted as it looked left and right, taking in the surroundings. It turned the corner into alleyway, catching sight of something that stroked his curiosity. With a inquisitive squeal, it walked up to the said object -- an old tennis ball.

Rahne was feeling feisty today.

Typically, she would not be in the Bronx, but like usual, her daily activities led her there. It was her attempt to break up the monotony of going to the same places over and over again. She knew it wasn't the safest thing for her to do being a mutant, but luckily for her, it was hard to tell that she was a mutant. Running was all she had to keep herself entertained. Rahne had though about taking up other activities, but nothing ever held her interest. Boxing was something she had thought about trying. Anything to get rid of excess energy. It was even harder to determine that she was among the Hunted.

Besides, the Bronx had a lovely park with many squirrels. Nothing was more entertaining than chasing them. She usually didn't kill them, but that was because most people frowned upon her returning with a bloody face. She didn't mind it, but other people did.

After find a tree that was out of the way, Rahne slid her shoes off in preparation for her shape shifting. Normally, she was apprehensive about leaving her belongings anywhere, but there wasn't much she could do about it. She had yet to find a better solution to keeping her clothes intact. Her X-Men uniform expanded to her body size when she shifted into her transitional state, but it didn't quite fit right when she assumed a wolf shape. However, only a few times had someone taken her clothes.

Once she had changed her shape, Rahne hid her dress in a hole next to the tree. Hopefully no one would take it. That would be awkward. It wasn't long after that that Rahne picked up the scent of a boar. She was confused at first, but just went with it. That would be fun to chase. Making sure to not be too loud, Rahne sought it out. It wasn't long till she heard a squeal that alerted her to the boar's whereabouts.

Padding softly, Rahne was finally able to lay her eyes on it. She had no intention of harming it, but she merely wanted to toy with it. She watched it walk up to an old tennis ball. Seeing an opportunity to scare it, Rahne leaped in front of it, snatching up the old ball. and consequently sending the boar in the opposite direction. Dropping the ball, Rahne took off after the creature, enjoying the chase.

Rush let off a squeal as he turned and ran. The pig never saw a wolf in New York before... or ever for that matter. He rounded the corner and went up the street with the wolf in hot pursuit. As it did, it saw the sight of a familiar vehicle rolling up slowly. The hog squealed out loudly, prompting the card come to a stop.

Buford got out of the car and stood up and looked at Rush as he it ran towards him... followed by a wolf.

"The heck?" Buford said as he looked on with wide eyes.

Pure joy was the feeling that Rahne was feeling. It had been awhile since she had experienced that feeling. She had no intention of killing the poor thing, just terrorizing it a bit. Besides, she would not be able to kill it before it squealed. Not many people were willing to let her chase them. A big wolf did not exactly inspire Rahne did pay attention to how the trees kept getting thinner as the chase went on. It did not register that she was going to run out of tree coverage very soon. She was too into her current task to even notice her impending folly.

Rahne chased him into what she thought was a clearing. She was very close to overtaking the boar. Her end goal was to just tackle it and run off. Having a goal in mind was always a good idea. Rahne halted her pursuit when she almost collided with a person. She was confused. They were in a forest, weren't they? Stopping, she looked around. They were on a street. Not a forest anymore.

It was needless to say that she was panicking. This was not good. Not good at all. Anyone with a mind would either assume she was an escaped wolf from the zoo, or the most obvious assumption, a mutant. She did not need to be chased with pitchforks again. Rahne made a very quick beeline back to where she came from, following her own scent.

A wolf? Really? Buford sighed. He couldn't let that go. He... didn't really have anything against wolves, but he knew how dangerous one could be. Sighing, he opened the door and of his car. After reaching in, he pulled out his .45. He remembered the days when he could just let a wolf go, since the forest would be just be a couple of miles away. But this was New York. It would cause a panic, albeit a small one.

"Ah hope Ah don't have to use this," Buford said before he close the door. "Come on, Rush. Ah know you don't like this, but we gotta find this wolf." The hog snorted in a seemingly indignant manner, but followed Buford anyway as the southerner ran after the beast.

Rahne mentally berated herself. She was an idiot. Her biggest rule was not being seen. This was not the situation she needed to be in, not one bit. She had been more reckless these past few weeks, but she attributed that to being more cooped up than she had in the past. She had not thought to get a look at the man, but she hoped that he would be smart enough to not follow her. Most people would turn the other way before ever thinking about chasing a wolf. All she had to do now was get back to her clothes.

That did not seem too difficult. Besides, there was no way she was going to get out of the city in this form.

However, Rahne’s fears were realized when she picked up on another scent. It wasn’t the boar’s, but it was human. She could only assume that it was that man. Why do people chase after things that could kill them? Not that she would, that was not her style. She liked leaving people alive for the most part, but there were those rare occasions that she thought otherwise, but never did she act on it. She didn’t worry too much. True, being followed made life difficult, but she could outrun him. She could outrun most people, some mutants non-withstanding.

Her scent wasn’t hard to follow, but she’d had chased that boar a good distance. This little diversion had done what it was meant to do: tire her out. She could feel it, but she did not need to slow down. It wasn’t the direst situation she had ever been in, not by a very long shot. This situation was more embarrassing, if anything. She just panicked. She slowed down, despite her inner wishes, to catch her breath for a moment. She couldn’t keep that kind of speed up without stopping. Rahne was not that crazy. She knew that if she did not stop, she’d collapse before she ever made it back to that tree.

There was a part of Buford that wondered why he was chasing after the wolf. Not his motivation behind it, mind you -- any police officer worth his badge would think about the people when danger is afoot. Thing was, he didn't know why he was going about it this way. He could have easily called it in so other cops could arrive with Animal Control. So, as he ran after the wolf, he thought about just giving up his chase to do just that, but he kept on running.

My college professor was right. That wolf got a set of lungs on it.

He looked down at Rush for a moment. He wondered what would have happened if he wasn't there. On one hand, the hog was definitely running. On the other hand, razorbacks have been known to gore wolves before.

"Well, ain't this a mess," Buford said, cocking the hammer on his pistol.

Rahne panted. She had to stop or she was going to fall over, even though she was still very against stopping. The man could not have caught up with her that quick, so she had some time. She laid down, gently resting her head on her paws. Even if this position, she could still spring forward and run if need be, which it probably would. Taking more deep breath breaths, her heart rate slowed down. She knew that wasn't too far from her clothes. She could pick up on the perfume that she had put on this morning.

Enough time had been spent catching her breath. Rahne knew she had to recover the ground yjay sjh In her haste, Rahne's attention to where she was running was lax. She failed to see the fallen branch. It was not high enough for her to spot it, but high enough that she caught her paw on on it. Letting loose a howl, she hit the ground, landing hard on her shoulder. Gingerly she picked herself up. As she out weight on her front legs, she found that her left shoulder was extremely sore. Either she had torn a tendon or a muscle, which was common with falls like she had just experienced. Hopefully, it would not hinder her getting to safety.

(This is not the original post. I think I saved over it when getting the template for my new one. so this one sucks.)

Finally, Buford caught up to the wolf. Buford came to a stop when he saw the beast trip over a branch. He closed his eyes for a second. For him, though, that second was a rather long time. Long enough for him to consider what he did not want to do. While he wasn't the type of person who'd put animals on a pedestal, he didn't enjoy killing them. Granted, he'll hunt a deer every now and again, but that was the extent of it. However, he didn't want this animal to kill anyone, even inadvertently.

After opening his eyes, he brought the gun upward and aimed the barrel at the wild dog.

"Sorry," he whispered before he pulled the trigger.

BANG!

Rahne knew it would not be long until her shoulder was no longer sore. She figured a muscle or tendon had been ripped, and if that was the case, it would only be a matter of minutes until the muscles fixed themselves. Had her mishap been any more serious than that, it would have taken longer. However, the sound of crunching leaves drew attention away from her shoulder.

She could smell the man as he came up on her. Rahne heard the faint whisper of him saying sorry. It did not take much for Rahne to gather what was about to occur. The man was close enough that his shot was sure to hit her somewhere vital. Rahne tried to move as quickly as she could, but it was no longer before the triggered was pulled. The BANG! of the gun paled in comparison to the blossoming pain she felt in her back leg. Rahne released a very loud howl of pain, mentally cursing herself and she stumbled. The world around her seemed to shake, but she knew that it was her becoming dizzy from the pain. Hobbling a few more steps, Rahne eventually fell over. The shot was not enough to kill her, not by a long shot. It would take her a day or two to recover from it, assuming she lived through her current situation.

Today was not her day. Her body was starting to go into a panic mode, and as it did so, she could feel the hold she had on her wolf form slipping. Immense paid always did this to her. She screamed, not howled, out in pain as her legs tried to elongate, her body trying to take on her transitional state. Rahne could not feel the bullet in her leg, but that did not guarantee anything. She fought mentally with herself to keep a lupine figure, but she could feel the hold slipping. The bones in her face started to rearrange themselves, assuming a more human shape. The man, assuming he wasn’t focused shooting her again, would probably have noticed how off everything was.

If the guy came after her again, she would do her best incapacitate him. Had any other mutant been in her position, they would have killed him, but that was what separated Rahne from other mutants. Killing him would solve so many of her current issues, but she just could not do it. Being raised religious, it was common knowledge that killing was wrong. Being a member of the X-Men, she knew it was still very wrong and commonly frowned upon.

Internally, he groaned in disgust disgust at himself as he managed to shoot the wolf in its leg. He readied himself to make another shot at the beast. One more shot to just put it out out of it's misery. Unfortunately, as he pulled the trigger, the beast transforming in front of him into... more of a beast, cause his shot to miss it's mark, just a foot to right of the animal.

At that very moment, he had a feeling of familiarity as a look of confusion came across his face. Why was this animal making him feel that way? He didn't know. Unfortunately, for him, it happened as the wrong times.

Rahne jumped as the second bullet missed her. The pain, even though it was easing, was still very present. As much as she hated it, she needed to get that gun away from him before he shot her again. Today was not the day she died. She refused to be shot like some common animal. Turning herself around, trying very hard to ignore the protest in her leg, she geared herself up to jump at him. Maybe if she hit his arm hard enough, he would lose control of his gun. With a shake of her head, she make her move, hitting the arm that held the gun as hard as she could. Maybe that would be enough because she did not have it in her to try again.

WIthout a second glance, she ran as fast as she could to the tree where her dress was. She was not gonna assume her human form in front him, not that she was embarrassed by nudity. Quite the contrary, in fact. Wolfing out had a unique effect on her clothing: it shredded them, leaving her with nothing when she returned to being human.

Relief flooded her sense when she saw her dress stuffed into the hole in the tree. Pulling it out with her teeth, she let loose the grip she had on her wolf form, assuming her human shape at last. Quickly sliding on her clothes, she dropped to the ground to look at her leg.

A good formula for disaster was confusion plus a missed shot. As the wolf lunged at him, Buford was at a loss. By the time he realized he should do something. The wolf... hit is arm. The man let out a swear as he dropped his gun. Fortunately for him, the wolf ran off again. Sighing, he ran over to his gun and picked it up.

"Ah really should have just called it in," he whispered to himself. He took off after the wolf again. However, after some time running, he didn't see a wolf. He saw woman who looked familiar. He came to a stop as he tilted his head.

"Rahne?"

Rahne hissed as she felt the area around the wound. She could not heal as fast as Logan, but she still healed quicker than the average. Much quicker than the average actually. It would heal soon, but it would hurt like a bitch until it did. Gripping the tree behind her, Rahne attempted to hoist herself up while trying her best to not put any weight on her leg. She was not quite sure where she would go with a bullet wound though.

Grasping the tree for dear life, she looked up at the mention of her name. The face was familiar, but she could not immediately place a name. She had definitely seen him at the mansion before, though, but it was not on a regular basis. She tried hard to recall a name, not really wanting to be seen as rude, but it was hard when she was experiencing some pain. “Ah’ve seen ya before, at the mansion, but ah can’t recall ye name. Ah would appreciate it though if ye did nah try to shoot at me again. Stings like ah bitch it does.”

Not that it would have made him feel much better, but there was a part of Buford that was hoping that it was someone else that he shot. He was hoping that he shot someone he didn't know at all, and that this woman just happened to have an uncanny resemblance to Rahne. Unfortunately, that hope was squashed -- it wasn't someone else. It wasn't someone he didn't know. It was, indeed, Rahne. He just shot someone from the mansion. As she answered, he dropped repeated F-Bombs in his head.

“Ah’ve seen ya before, at the mansion, but ah can’t recall ye name. Ah would appreciate it though if ye did nah try to shoot at me again. Stings like ah bitch it does.”

"It's Buford, ma'am," the man said with a lot of regret in his voice. He dropped his gun before he brought his hands up and covered his bowed face, muttering to himself in a muffled voice. "Sweet Mary an' Joseph, Ah shot you." He lowered her his hands before looking at her leg. "Ah'm sorry, Rahne. How badly did Ah injure you?"
